Central Square in East Boston looking, it appears, northeast at one
side of Meridian Street just before the center of the square. Above the
awning to the right the sign says, "Goldenberg's."
The police station and courthouse in the same spot they are today,
with a view south down Meridian Street to Maverick Square. Notice the
trolley coming down the street and what appears to be a water tower in the
background.
A view of Maverick Square with trolley cars emerging from the
tunnel. Boston Harbor would be straight ahead, behind the tunnel entrance.
Is that the Maverick House to the right, or was that gone before the tunnel
opened in 1904?
The Maverick Congregational Church, located at the corner of Central
Square and Liverpool Street.
The first church to bear that name was
constructed in 1837 on Maverick Street but had its named changed to the
Church of St. Nicholas when taken over by the neighborhood's Irish Catholics
in 1844. For the past 150 years it's been called Most Holy Redeemer.
